Pair of Vases
These two vases are decorated in overglaze enamel, or ´Petit Feu´ colours. This means that the painter added this decoration on the already glazed and fired surface in colours that cannot resist a high+temperature firing . This decoration was submitted to a much cooler firing in a muffle kiln. This proces was much more costly than a single firing, but abled the decorator to use a broader scale of smoother colours. The body of these delicate vases are decorated with rococoframes devided in panels; two panels on the front and on the back with a lady a landscape, two panels on the sides depicting a man in a garden, two panels with a bird amidst flowering plants, two panels with a flowers near a fence. The bottom, neck and cover are decorated with shells and floral scatters. The cover is modelled with a flower and leaves.
